Verdeco Designs is continually in the process of developing new design and building solutions for our clients, as well as building our business network and establishing new strategic partnerships within the business community. Along with our consulting relationships with on-going clients, some of our recent projects of note are the following: |
– Passive solar addition and renovation to promote universal design accessibility for a residence in Uxbridge, MA |
The following two projects are especially noteworthy as they represent our continued efforts to be involved in meaningful design and building projects and will hopefully serve as foundations for similar efforts. Please feel free to contact us for more information on any of our projects or professional services. Click on the icons below for project “storyboards” in PDF format. |
Beaton Residence – Highlighted on the DIY cable network show, “This New House”, the Beaton Residence is a new single family residence in Shrewsbury, MA that is in line to become the 1st project in Massachusetts to achieve Passive House certification, perhaps the most rigorous standard for energy efficient construction in the world. No matter what geographical region, the goal of Passive House projects is for the interior of the building to stay at a comfortable temperature year round with minimal energy demand. Conventional heating systems are virtually unnecessary, as these low energy buildings are heated and cooled “passively” through passive solar design principles and heat recovery systems, while very little wanted heat is lost and very little unwanted heat is gained through a super insulated, super tight building envelope. |

Moulson Residence – A major renovation and expansion of a 2,200 sq. ft. historic ranch home to an almost 5,000 sq. ft. residence. Although the original house was built in 1956, the Town of Andover Preservation Commission had determined the property to have historical importance, largely because it was the former residence of the famous author Munro Leaf, best known for his children’s book The Story of Ferdinand the Bull. Also of historical relevance was that the original architect of the residence was Carl Koch, best known for his post-WWII modular housing and the founder of Techbuilt homes. And so, the renovation and expansion of this residence was sensitively designed within this historical reference, but it was also accomplished with the 21st century energy efficiency standards (Energy Star certification) along with an updated interior interpretation. |
